A comprehensive comparison of the newly launched POCO X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max in India, detailing their shared features and highlighting key differences in chipset, performance, battery capacity and biometric technology.

POCO X8 series has officially launched in India, with pricing starting at Rs 32,999. The lineup, which includes the POCO X8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max is focused on delivering high performance. Following the brand’s "All Power, No BS" mantra both devices pack impressive specifications including powerful processors, large batteries and support for 120 fps gaming.

The top-of-the-line POCO X8 Pro Max is powered by the advanced 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset. Its sibling, the standard POCO X8 Pro, is no slouch either, featuring the capable Dimensity 8500 Ultra SoC. Both phones share a nearly identical design language, characterized by flat edges and a sleek, pill-shaped camera island on the back that incorporates dynamic RGB lights for notifications and gaming effects.

Durability is a major highlight with both models boasting an impressive combination of IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings. This ensures protection against dust, water and even high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. The displays are shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

On the software front, the duo boots Android 16-based HyperOS 3.0, with a commitment to four major Android updates and six years of security patches. For photography, they feature a dual rear camera system with a 50MP primary sensor—using a LightFusion 600 sensor on the Max and a Sony IMX882 on the standard model—alongside an 8MP ultra-wide lens. Selfies are handled by a 20MP front camera. Both rear and front cameras support 4K and 1080p video recording at 60fps, respectively.

The displays share high-end features like 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 3,500 nits peak brightness, and HDR10+ support, though the X8 Pro Max sports a larger 6.83-inch panel compared to the 6.59-inch screen on the X8 Pro. Connectivity is future-ready with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth v6, 5G and NFC.

While the POCO X8 series shares a common design language, the most significant distinction between the two models lies in their performance cores. The standard POCO X8 Pro is equipped with the mid-range MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra SoC, while its more powerful sibling, the X8 Pro Max features the high-end MediaTek Dimensity 9500s. As both are newly released chipsets, real-world testing will be essential to evaluate their true capabilities. According to POCO's initial claims, the X8 Pro Max can achieve an AnTuTu score exceeding 3 million, whereas the X8 Pro is rated to cross the 2 million mark.

This performance gap is further widened by the memory and storage configurations. The X8 Pro Max comes with faster 12GB LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and offers up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage. In contrast, the X8 Pro utilizes relatively slower LPDDR5X RAM in 8GB or 12GB options, paired with 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. Although both phones employ the same 3D IceLoop cooling technology, the Max model benefits from a slightly larger vapor chamber (5,800mm² compared to 5,300mm² on the Pro), which on paper should provide a marginal advantage in thermal management.

Perhaps the most striking hardware difference is in battery capacity. The POCO X8 Pro Max packs a massive 9,000mAh silicone-carbon battery making it the second-largest in any commercially available smartphone. This chemistry ensures the device remains relatively slim and light, tipping the scales at 220 grams with an 8.2mm profile. It supports 100W fast charging and 27W reverse charging.

Finally, the biometric experience differs between the two. While both feature in-display sensors, the POCO X8 Pro Max is equipped with a more advanced ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, promising faster and more reliable unlocks. The standard X8 Pro by contrast, relies on a conventional optical in-display fingerprint sensor.
